Backroom Donation Sorter Volunteer Page
Your tasks will include:
- Sorting Donations - Categorize and organize incoming donations by size, type and condition.
- Inspecting Garments - Check each item for stains, rips, or other imperfections to make sure everything on our shelves is in top shape for our community members.
- Tagging Clothes - Help with tagging clothing items with prices, ensuring all tags are properly attached.
- Merchandising - Assist in placing merchandise on the sales floor, ensuring it is well-arranged and easy for customers to browse.
Don’t worry if you’re new to volunteering – our Team at Double Take will be there to guide you every step of the way and share some friendly conversation while you work. Whether you’re sorting through donations or helping set up displays, you’ll be making a real difference, and we’re sure you’ll enjoy every moment!

VOLUNTEER REQUIREMENTS -
- Closed-Toe Shoes - For safety and comfort while you work.
- Lock for your Belongings - If you don’t have one, don’t worry – we’ll provide a lock for you!
- Physical Demands - The role involves being on your feet for extended periods and performing tasks that require frequent bending, stretching, and lifting objects up to 20 pounds.
- Open and Happy Attitude - A positive and enthusiastic approach to help create a welcoming environment for everyone.
- Age Requirement - Volunteers must be at least 18 years old and able to access the internet to view volunteer shifts and notifications. Those under 18 must have a parent or guardian sign a consent letter.

Q: Where is the YSM’s Double Take Thrift Store located?

Q: I want to volunteer with my friends or a group, but there are no spots available. What can I do?
A: Depending on the day, we may be able to accommodate your request. Please email us at doubletake@ysm.ca with your details, and we'll let you know if we can make space for you.
Q: What are the available shifts for the Backroom Donation Sorter Volunteer position?
A: There are two volunteer shifts available for the Back Donation Sorter Volunteer:
- AM Shift: 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM
- PM Shift: 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM
Q: Can I volunteer for more than 3 hours?
A: Unfortunately, our volunteer shifts are only 3 hours long, but you can sign up for both AM and PM shifts on the same day.
Q: Am I entitled to a break during my volunteer shift?
A: If you're volunteering for 3 hours, breaks are not scheduled. However, volunteers are welcome to take bathroom and water breaks as needed.
